Display Rules: Tees to talk about
We are now finally coming to the realization, as one big group of humans, that having a conversation is the start of something better. The folks at Display Rules are upping the ante and have created some adorable tees that carry a serious message - let's talk about it!
'Display rules' refers to a culture's informal norms or expectations placed upon people that revolve around emotion and feeling such as - "men don't cry" or "women shouldn't be dominant". Well, we're not about it, and neither is the owner and founder of this local company, Jenn O'Quinn. Through her company and their products she's emphasizing the negative consequences these "norms" can have on society and individuals resulting in depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. Jenn and Display Rules are opening up that conversation, and allowing you to show the world you're not afraid to talk about it.
Whether you're a sufferer or supporter, these tees are too cute to pass up. I have been friends with Jenn for a number of years and was ecstatic when I started seeing her tees being worn around town (proud friend moment)! Her most popular piece, is her "anxie-tea" tee - if you haven't seen this one yet, check out the Display Rules instagram account and take a look.
When Display Rules reached out to us we jumped at the chance to feature some of their latest pieces, and ones that we will wear with absolute pride and openness. Not only do these tees help abolish stigma and start a new conversation, Display Rules also gives back 20% of their profits to mental health organizations in Newfoundland and Labrador!
The original collection from Display Rules features various mental illnesses such as OCD, PTSD, anxiety, depression, eating disorder, 'one in five', bipolar, and addiction. To learn more about Jenn's story and the company, check out their website here!
